Dr Michael Hastings, who preached and stole the show at the annual event, hailed the teacher, who won the 100 million shilling Global Teacher Award, as an embodiment of what the teaching profession is all about; sacrifice of individuals for the greater good of another generation.

"You also gave us Peter Tabichi, the 37-year-old Frasciscan brother. This year he won the Global Teacher Prize and at his remakable age as a science teacher, he demonstrated what the art of teaching is all about; it is the sacrifice of individuals for the greater good of another generation, " Dr Hastings said.

Tabichi was awarded for his adorable compassion and generosity towards the poor.

He reportedly gave out 80 % of his income and dedicated much of his time to teaching children from poor backgrounds.

"His dedication, hard work and passionate belief in his student’s talent have led his poorly-resourced school in remote rural Kenya to emerge victorious after taking on the country’s best schools in national science competitions, " the organisation that hands out the prize and picks the nominees wrote on its website.
