Thousands of Siaya residents town out at Ugunja town to give President Uhuru Kenyatta a gesture of goodwill during his final day in Nyanza, a region associated with opposition politics.

Leaders under the stewardship of Mr Raila Odinga thronged into the town and all showed their solidarity to the handshake that has since quelled political tensions.

Uhuru said: "Asante sana to the residents of the Counties of Kisumu and Siaya, for warmly welcoming me to your region during my two-day official tour. I assure you that my brother @RailaOdinga and I will continue to unite and work together to develop our nation for the benefit of all Kenyans."

Earlier, the president visited Raila's compound at Opoda Farm where he had breakfast before holding a closed-door meeting with members of Odinga family along with other invited guests.

At Ugunja town, Senator James Orengo, who gave a vote of thanks, hailed the president for his good gesture, adding that the region would work with him to proper in terms of development.

"In Ugunja Constituency where the President commissioned the Ugunja-Ukwala-Nyadorera road. Infrastructure is key to development and improves the economy of a region. We are grateful for the two day visit by the President to the region. @UKenyatta @RailaOdinga."

Mr Odinga and Uhuru were also honored at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology where they received honorary doctorate degrees in an event which was attended by thousands before they proceeded to Ugunja.
