Embattled Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula was pictured for the first time on Tuesday since the explosive details about fake gold scandal in which he is directly linked emerged.
In a photo posted by blogger Abraham Mutai, Wetangula pauses for a photo with nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura. They were in China, ironically for anti-corruption conference.
"Senator Isaac Mwaura and Conman Senator Moses Wetangula representing the Kenyan Senate ahead of the International Anti Corruption Conference in Hong Kong China," Mutai said.
A post by Senator Isaac Mwaura's Facebook also indicated that the two are representing Senate in an ongoing Anti-Corruption conference in Hong Kong.
"With Sen Moses Wetangula representing the Senate ahead of the International Anti corruption conference in Hong Kong China. We paid a courtesy call at the Faculty of Law of University of Hong Kong where Prof Yash Pal Ghai taught for 10 years," Mwaura said.
In a leaked audio, Senator Wetangula is heard nailing details of Sh400 million fake gold deal with a representative of Dubai Royal family. The former Foreign Affairs minister drags the name of ODM leader Raila Odinga, President Uhuru Kenyatta and Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i.
DCI George Kinoti last week said that Wetangula and businessman Zaheer Jhanda are people of interest in the matter. Both are expected to be grilled over the matter that has put Kenya's diplomatic relationship with UAE at stake.
“He is a person of interest and we shall be interrogating him and all others mentioned to determine their degree of involvement,” said Mr Kinoti.
While Wetangula is yet to comment on the matter, his personal assistant Chris Mandu last week said that the long time serving legislator was also conned in the deal. He however, did not give details.
Detectives reportedly jetted to Dubai on Monday where they are expected to gather information with regard to the deal. President Uhuru Kenyatta reportedly ordered for investigations and prosecutions.
