Speaking on Sunday during Mashujaa Day celebrations at Mbumbuni, Makueni County Commissioner Mohammed Maalim said Muinde has since been asked to report to education offices in Nairobi.

What's more, he has been interdicted and his position filled by Loise Macharia.

Maalim said that there was no cause for alarm since the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has already replaced the container lock.

"I'm telling you how serious this thing is; there are no jokes. There's an education director who lost a key to a container I don't know what he was planning," said Maalim.

"What we have done is that he has been interdicted and replaced. Also, the padlock has been changed so anyone who had plans of using the key should know he or she won't succeed," he added.

The incident comes just a day after Lukenya Assistant County Commissioner Elizabeth Karitu lost her key for an examination container.

Karitu is reportedly said to have visited Avenue Hospital in Nairobi and left her handbag in the car with the key.

Thugs broke into her car and stole the handbag together with the key. The officer has since been arrested and interdicted.

Plans to change the lock are underway. Last week, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i warned that no excuse will be tolerated for losing the keys.

"There will be no key that will be lost, No deputy county commissioner will be allowed to lose a key. There will be no excuse," said Matiang'I.
