Members of the Sh4.1 billion Lake Basin Development Authority Mall (LBDA) have come out to critic the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) for slowing down the probe into the project.
The project came at the centre of attention after EACC estimated that approximately Sh2 billion may have been stolen from the project.
Led by their chairman Odoyo Owidi , officials of the Lake Basin Development Authority Mall complained to a Senate committee that the Kisumu based mall does not have tenants due to bad publicity.
“Six years down the line, EACC has not taken anybody to court. It should stop attracting negative publicity to the mall through its unending investigations,” LBDA chairman Owidi sated as quoted by The Standard Media.
According to a report by The Standard Media, Kisumu Senator Fred Outa claimed there could be an intentional plot to avoid paying a contractor in charge of building the mall hence making it to be auctioned.
One of the other major concern facing the mall also is a Sh2.5 billion borrowed from Co-Operative Bank using the title deeds of the Kisumu based mall.
Earlier on, a report by Business Daily indicated that Cabinet Secretary for East African Community and Regional Development Adan Mohamed had been summoned by senators to explain the delay in handing over of the Lake Basin Mall in Kisumu to the Lake Basin Development Authority (LBDA).
