California Senator Kamala Harris has brought her presidential campaign to an abrupt end after suffering a slump in poll numbers, the New York Times has reported.

In an email to her supporters explaining her dramatic decision, Harris said that her campaign had run out of financial resources to continue.

“My campaign for president simply doesn’t have the financial resources we need to continue,” Ms Harris email partly read as quoted by the New York Times.

She assured that in spite of bailing out, she would continue fighting for what she believes in.

“It is with deep regret — but also with deep gratitude— that I am suspending my campaign today. But I want to be clear with you: I am still very much in this fight," she assured.

Kamala Harris campaign had created significant excitement among her supporters from the start, catapulting her to the front, according to the BBC.

Her announcement speech in Oakland reportedly attracted a crowd of over 20,0000, sending jitters across the political world that she stood a chance of becoming the first black woman to ascend to the presidency.

The Washington Post cited the internal dynamics of her campaign, which was led by her sister Maya, as a hindrance.

There were serious divisions in his campaign team, with members appearing to pull in different directions.
