This is the latest county assembly to shoot down the proposals as Ekuru seeks to amend 2010 Constitution.

None of the members from the house supported the bill.  It took a record time of 20 minutes for the lawmakers to reject the proposals of the former Presidential candidate.

According to the lawmakers the proposals are not only ill-timed but also ill-motivated.

They argued that the proposed reduction of seats in parliament is likely to lead to under representation in the house in the long run.

While chairing the committee at the county assembly, Ms Yvonne Wanjiku, said that they were not ready to support the proposals because they have a hidden agenda.

She argued that the proposals are likely to come with issues of under representation.

“The bill if it succeeds will lead to the county’s improper representation at the national. We therefore cannot support it due to those reasons among others,” said Ms Wanjiku, as quoted by Daily Nation.

On his part, Assembly majority leader Gideon Gachara said that the proposals presented by Aukot are not realistic, adding that he is going nowhere with the same.
