Education Cabinet Secretary Amb. Amina Mohamed on Monday released results for this years' Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations.
It was joy and celebrations in several parts of the country for those who had managed good marks.
However as those who did well in the exams were celebrating with their friends and family, a family in Shauri estate on the outskirts of Eldoret town was mourning the death of their son, Edward Nyamu who was also a KCPE candidate.
Nyamu died on Sunday, a day before the results were released.
This is after a lorry filled with sand rammed into their house killing the candidate on the spot.
The bedroom where Nyamu sleeps was the most affected part of the house after the incident.
"I tried to pull him out but all was in vain. I could not believe my son had died and I kept pulling him as my neighbours watched helplessly," narrated the mother.
The student scored 347 marks that could have enabled him to join a good secondary school but that will never happen as the family is now preparing for his burial while his colleagues will be preparing to join form one next year.
