President Uhuru Kenyatta has been asked to halt excessive borrowing of money from foreign countries.
A section of local leaders in Kisii County speaking on Thursday in Kisii town said the Head of State must seal borrowing loopholes because few greedy individuals have been stealing public funds.
"Corruption has been on the rise because the government is borrowing a lot of money from foreign countries pretending to use the money in development but, in return few individuals pockets the money. It is high time the Head of State to stop borrowing money immediately," said Fredrick Nyamboki, a youth leader.
He further argued that should the government continue borrowing the future generation will suffer repaying the loans thus making life harder.
Rachael Otundo a human activist cum politician urged President Uhuru to ensure no more borrowing is done.
"Kenyans are not enjoying the way the Jubilee government is running affairs. Excessive borrowing from foreign counties with increased theft of the borrowed money is what we are seeing. Uhuru must stop borrowing but instead focus recovering stolen money from the greedy individuals who have stolen to enrich themselves," she stated.
She appealed to elected leaders to stop misusing public funds meant for development.
