Deputy President Dr William Ruto has weighed in on a Standard Newspaper headline that suggested that he is an enemy of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga.
The Standard on Wednesday had a story titled; "When Old Friends Become Foes."
In a tweet on Wednesday afternoon, the country's second in command denied the suggestion that the two leaders were enemies.
He said in his tweet that he only had competitors and no enemies.
"Enemy NOWAY? Good people I have no enemies because there is no need for baggage. Competitors yes !! That's the richness of democracy we should celebrate," Ruto's tweet read
The DP used to be a strong ally of the former Prime Minister and even supported his 2007 presidential bid.
The two fell out during the grand coalition government after Ruto accused Raila of using the Mau issue for political gain.
Ruto then bailed out of ODM and formed his own United Republican Party (URP) with which he intended to run for the presidency.
In 2013, he threw his weight behind Uhuru Kenyatta, who became the 4th President of Kenya thanks in no small part to the support of Ruto who mobilised the rich Kalenjin vote.
The two have appeared to be in the political competition since then and speculation is rife that they will face each other in the 2022 presidential election.
