Kisii County police commander Martin Kibet has put on notice cartels operating gambling businesses.
Kibet said cartels have opted to use residential buildings to run the illicit businesses following the intensified police patrols across the county.
"It is worrying that cartels are now renting rooms at residential areas to set up gambling businesses while pretending to be tenants. No cartels will be spared by the law in the fight against the illicit trade. I urge the public to be vigilant and report anyone running the outlawed business," said Kibet on Tuesday in his office.
He warned that anyone found running the business will be thrown to jail without mercy.
The commander lauded residents of Nyangena village who raised alarm to police following the gambling business which has been ongoing at a residential house in the village prompting police officers to raid the house to confiscate the gambling machines.
"Crackdown on gambling business is ongoing and no one will be favoured in the fight. Let residents venture into legal businesses to avoid being in the wrong side of the law," he added.
Kibet attributed increased cases of school dropout in Kisii county to gambling activities across the county.#hivisasaoriginal
