Garissa Township legislator has come hard on Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri saying he has failed in taming locust invasion in North Eastern.
On Thursday, Duale said that the situation on the ground is dire and there was a need for Kiunjuri to act swiftly in handling it.
“This is a serious crisis that must be addressed urgently. Mr Kiunjuri and his Principal Secretary should not continue to be on holiday as the people in North Eastern suffer. So far the two have not spoken, they have not done anything to write home about,” asserted Duale.
"The CS and his PS must be called to action. The ministry is always quiet when there are issues affecting the country,” he added.
The insects have affected six constituencies in Mandera, Tarbaj, Wajir East, Wajir West and Garissa.
Duale said that the locusts are farms putting residents and livestock in the area on the verge of famine.
On the other hand, CS Kiunjuri stated that the government is already doing something to make sure they manage the invasion.
“I want to tell the residents of North Eastern Kenya that our team is already on the ground to deal with the locusts. There should be no worry,” said Kiunjuri.
He further said that the insecurity in the region has delayed their operations noting that the team on the ground has to wait for security briefs.
