Police in Migori have recovered a car believed to have been used in the kidnapping of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno and journalist Barrack Oduor.
The car, a black Toyata Fielder, is being held at a police station in the area.
The car was reportedly impounded on Sunday evening and its driver arrested.
"We are holding the vehicle. We also arrested the driver," an officer privy to the arrests told the standard.
He was on Monday arraigned in court and charged in connection with the murder of Sharon as the prosecutor asked the court to allow the suspect to be held for 10 days to allow more investigations.
According to those privy to the new development, the car operates as a taxi in Migori town.
“Police believe it is the car that was involved. It fits the description given by Oduor,” a source said.
There have been questions on why police were yet to find the car the two were abducted in before Sharon’s body was discovered in a thicket in Homa Bay.
Oduor said he escaped a possible murder after he jumped off the car.
Detectives handling the case said the development will help narrow down on four suspects who are believed to be the actual killers of the university student.
Investigators will be seeking to establish those who had hired the car on the material day.
