There was drama at Bongwendo area in Kitutu Masaba, Nyamira County after a woman stormed a funeral demanding to be recognized as the deceased second wife.
The incident happened on Wednesday at 12 pm.
Witnesses said trouble started when the woman identified as Teresa Kemunto was denied a microphone to address mourners.
"Kemunto arrived at the funeral and demanded to be given a microphone to address mourners who were attending the burial ceremony of the late Lawrence Mogendi who died last week," said Raphael Okindo.
Mr. Okindo said until his death, Mr. Mogendi was married to only 1 wife, Edinah Nyanchera who he sired 4 kids with.
"Kemunto claimed that she was Mogendi's wife and there were plans to legalize their relationship," said Okindo.
A local chief Victor Mochama said members of the public intervened and kicked out the woman from the funeral.
"The burial service proceeded after Kemunto was kicked out. Women should stop being desperate to cause mayhem when men dies," he said.
Mr. Mochama called on men to legalize marriages in time to curb unnecessary drama.
