Pius Otieno who was arrested on Monday was reportedly on a publicity spree and went ahead to brag to his friends how he took part in the same.

He is said to be part of the team that waylaid the victim while on her way to the washrooms and mutilated her private parts in the process of committing the crime.

According to Homa Bay Police Boss Marius Tum, the latter was arrested after a member of the public heard him bragging and notified the law enforcers.

“He was heard bragging that he participated in defiling the girl. Someone called us about the matter which prompted us to swing into action and arrest him,” he was quoted by the Nation.

The police believe that the man is one of the two suspects who defiled the girl and used a razor blade to mutilate her genitals before taking off.

She was on Thursday flown to Nairobi for specialized treatment while DNA samples of the two were taken to the government chemist in line with investigations.

8 other suspects arrested over the same were released after the police failed to link them to the incident.
