Through the Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) Secretary General Seth Panyako, the nurses have threatened to go on strike starting February 04, 2019 if their grievances will not have been addressed by the County Government.

In a letter addressed to the Kisumu County Public Service Board and the Kisumu County Secretary, nurses are demanding for the payment of Nursing Service Allowance and uniform allowance as indicated in an agreement signed by nurses and the National and County Governments on November 02, 2017.

“Pursuant to the agreement, all nurses are entitled to Nursing Service Allowance and Uniform Allowance which we have been informed by the branch leadership that you have failed to pay from July 2018, hence breaching the terms of the agreement,” reads a section of the letter signed by Panyako.

“Take notice that failure to implement the agreement as per this letter shall result into a strike by members in your county which shall commence on 4th February 2019, and continue until full implementation shall have been achieved, “ adds the letter that was seen by Hivisasa.com.

KNUN has also issued strike notices to other counties among them West Pokot and Tharaka Nithi County over various issues.
