Speaking on Wednesday, the former Subukia parliamentarian claimed that Uhuru's latest actions are an indication of a man who has already charted a different path away from Ruto.

He urged the DP to seek other avenues and not expect a realisation of Uhuru's initial vow to endorse him as his successor in 2022.

"For a long time we have had an argument on whether Uhuru and Ruto are together, they are not together (Tumekuwa na ubishi kwa muda mrefu watu wakisema Uhuru na Ruto wako pamoja, hawako pamoja)," he said.

Koigi who folded his Chama Cha Mwananchi Party into the Jubilee Party ahead of the 2017 polls made the remarks during an interview on Radio Sauti Ya Mwananchi's Kero Nyeti show on Wednesday morning.

He said that the DP is better off alone, failure to which he will waste his time awaiting a backing that will never materialise.

At the same time, he advised Ruto not to expect an open declaration on the same, and should just read between the lines and make the necessary move.

"He who is chasing you away never tells you to leave. If he is waiting for Uhuru to directly tell him then it will never come. Let him be understanding (Akufukuzaye hakwambii toka, kama anangoja Uhuru atamke moja kwa moja haitakuja, heri awe mwelewa)," he said.

Uhuru has been seen to be drifting further away from Ruto after his handshake with ODM boss Raila Odinga with whom they buried the hatchet early last year.

However, the Head of State is yet to call it quits with the DP, but has at the same time appeared unwilling to speak on Ruto's 2022 bid, despite having initially promised to spearhead his campaigns.
