Raila Odinga’s Kisumu political stronghold is set to benefit from the March 9 Handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila as the two are set to see the Standard Gauge Railway reach the town.

According to Nation, Raila and Uhuru are planning to get loans to fund the building of the SGR from Naivasha to Kisumu.

To achieve this, the two will travel to China next week to borrow Sh350 billion loan for the SGR extension.

“I will be part of the delegation to accompany the President to the Asian country next week. The new SGR line will extend from Naivasha, Narok, Bomet, Sondu and finally Kisumu,” Mr Odinga told a crowd during a stopover rally at Sondu market on Saturday.

The opposition bigwig said the project will be a big boost to the economy of Kisumu as it will create jobs for the people.

“We are going to establish a special economic zone in Kisumu and make the city the hub of East Africa,” Raila told a cheerful crowd.

The ODM party leader spoke during a trip to Nyakach for a burial.

He told his supporters to continue backing government projects and President Uhuru Kenyatta as ‘more goods are on the way’.
