Deputy President William Ruto has accused Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Leader Raila Odinga of trying to use the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) to gain political mileage.
Speaking in Soy, Keiyo South, Elgeyo-Marakwet on Saturday, Ruto said that Raila wants to use the BBI to divide Kenyans.
He reminded Raila and his camp that Kenya needs to remain united even after the referendum for the sake of economic growth.
The second in command said that he will only support the BBI if it doesn’t give room for national conversation.
“Those who want to create new fault lines as we work towards building bridges for the unity of our nation in order to eliminate hate and divisions, those who want take us that path will fail miserably,” he said, as quoted by Daily Nation.
Ruto also said that he is committed towards uniting Kenya alongside President Uhuru Kenyatta.
He divulged that the Jubilee government will continue initiating projects in different parts of the country in the remaining years before Uhuru completes his second term as promised.
He also said that time has come for leaders to avoid engaging in dirty politics and push for the development of their regions.
Ruto further said that the BBI should not be a tool for a community or individuals to gain advantage over others.
