The Mandera County government has held a meeting with top ten girls in the 2018 KCSE in the county and their parents.
Governor Ali Roba, who has been at the forefront of promoting the education of girls, confirmed that the top performers will be given scholarships to pursue higher education and achieve their dreams.
Education CEC Izzudin urged parents to shun marrying off their girls at an early age and instead give them the opportunity to study.
The scholarships will be merit-based and performance will be evaluated on an annual basis.
The girls will have the opportunity to study technical courses such as engineering, architecture and also medical courses such as medicine and nursing which are wrongly perceived to be male courses.
