Moi who has since hinted at making an attempt to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta is, however, yet to officially announce his candidature.

The son to retired President Daniel Moi on Saturday met the delegation led by Njuri Ncheke chair Albert Mugambi in Ngata, Nakuru county, where the team pledged full support come 2022.

And while accepting their endorsement, Moi pledged his readiness to take up the task and lead in the capacity his father led the nation for 24 years.

"I am ready. I will not be cowed into shelving my candidature because I now have the support of both God and elders. I have officially kicked off my bid," Moi said.

The leaders based their backing on the good relationship they had with retired President Moi, expressing hopes that Gideon will keep up the good job his father did.

"Moi was a good friend of Njuri Ncheke and was always there when needed. We are sure that we will see more of that in Senator Gideon," said Mugambi.

The Kenya African National Union (KANU) chief is set to face, among others, Deputy President William Ruto and Machakos Governor Alfred Mutual in his bid.
