Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko will not manage to get away with graft accusations leveled against him for lack of a deputy governor, Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruyoit has said.

Speaking on Tuesday during an interview on NTV, Cheruyoit said the county boss has no excuse for failing to a point a deputy, almost 2 years after his former deputy, Polycarp Igathe resigned.

He argued that Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok has already named his deputy, yet he is the newest governor to assume office following the demise of Governor Joyce Laboso.

"Sonko cannot be allowed to get away with not appointing a deputy, in Bomet the governor has appointed a deputy already,” he said.

The senator went on to fault the Director of Public Prosecutions over the manner in which he handled the case, adding that the governor deserved better treatment than what happened.

"How the DPP handles a person should not look as though he has presumed the guilt of the person. These Friday arrests show bad will on his part," he added.

The governor has maintained that he is innocent even as the DPP digs deeper into his case.

The county boss was hospitalized on Tuesday at the Kenyatta National Hospital after he reportedly fell ill overnight.

On Monday, his lawyer had requested that he be granted bail to seek medical treatment.

The bail ruling has been set for Wednesday, December 11, 2019.
