On Friday through an executive order, Uhuru added more duties to Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i, making perhaps the most powerful minister.

Henceforth, Dr Matiang'i will be in charge of Presidential Delivery Unit, which has been for many years under State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita.

Also, the immigration department was shifted to Interior ministry and was renamed Citizen services, another task that will be overseen by Matiang'i.

"I am not shocked. This is a well deserved promotion. Making him Prime Minister is our joy and we thank God for that favour," said Jerusha Momanyi, the Nyamira Woman Representative.

County Speaker Moffat Teya also lauded Dr Matiang'i, arguing that his diligence in service delivery may have thrilled President Uhuru Kenyatta.

"Personally I know the minister. He is result oriented and that could be the reason why the President has a soft spot on him. He's going places," he said on phone.

Similar sentiments were echoed by Governor John Nyagarama when he officially took part in census exercise at his Tente home in Nyamira.

Early this year, President Uhuru Kenyatta elevated Matiang'i after making him the chairman of powerful National Development and Communication Cabinet Committee.
