US-based lawyer Makau Mutua is rooting for the abolishing of the national examinations. In a tweet on Thursday, Mutua said that it is senseless for the Kenyan children to be subjected to national examinations when they do not reflect the real picture on the ground. He noted that examinations have become a tool to make some students hopeless when that is not the case.

He reiterated the government should consider doing away with both the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE). Makau argued that the examinations have no impact on the lives of the learners.

"ABOLISH national exams. They aren’t about education. No — they only deny young people opportunities, stunt human potential, and stratify society. Let’s stop locking young people out through this obscene charade @DonaldBKipkorir @WMutunga @KoinangeJeff @ahmednasirlaw @EduMinKenya," he tweeted.

The remarks come after president Uhuru Kenyatta hailed parents, teachers, and stakeholders from other areas for the improvement posted by the learners who sat for KCSE this year. He also said that he is committed that all Kenyans youth get an opportunity to undergo Secondary education.

"The President said the improvement is as a result of the enhanced Government investment in the education sector and backs efforts to ensure 100 percent transition from primary to secondary school education," read the tweet by Satehouse.
