Jubilee Party candidate for the forthcoming Kibra parliamentary mini poll McDonald Mariga is not fit for the position, political analyst Dennis Anyonka has said.
Mariga is currently considered among the frontrunners in the November 7 race, alongside Imran Okoth of the Orange Democratic Movement and Eliud Owalo (ANC).
But Anyonka now says that Mariga is not fit for the position, and appears not interested in politics in the first place, and could only be bending to the pressure he appears to be under.
Speaking on Monday, he also took issue with Mariga's campaign promises, saying that some are just plain jokes being told to the people to win their backing and can't be kept.
"From the start, Mariga was not a politician, he is shy and appears to have been pushed into this. He is not politically mature and even his promises are just jokes. (Mariga tangu mwanzo hakuwa mwanasiasa, yuko shy, ni mtu wa kusukumwa tu. Hata zile promises zake ni za mchezo tu, hajakomaa kisiasa)," Anyonka said on Radio Maisha.
He said that as much as the promises might look too good, there is a need for the voters not to fall for them, but the ability of the person giving them to realize them.
He noted that otherwise, they are likely to end up with the wrong leader, who might not be able to solve their current challenges.
"Politicians will say everything once on the podium. It is necessary for Kibra residents to be keen not to land in the trap (Wanasiasa watasema chochote wakisimama kwenye podium. Ni vyema wanaKibra wawe macho wasije wakaanguka kwenye mtego)," he added.
Mariga has since promised to along others, secure international scholarships for Kibra students and establish a school in every ward.
