Eldoret is undoubtedly one of the fastest growing towns in Kenya and in Africa.
The headquarter of Uasin Gishu county is home to close to a half a million people and hundreds of businesses are situated here.
Kenya has three cities, Nairobi, Kisumu and Mombasa. Despite the fact that Eldoret is not so up to date with all the conditions of a world-class city, it should be termed a city in the Kenyan context.
I opine that eldoret deserves to be called a city due to the following three reasons:
1. Proper and up to date infrastructure.
The great north road passes through the heart of Eldoret town. Besides, the majority of major roads leading to Eldoret town are efficient and this enables effective movement of goods and services to and from Eldoret.
The Eldoret International Airport is a huge international transport centre as it connects Eldoret with the rest of the world.
2. Trade and educational centres
Eldoret is home to hundreds of big trading activities just at the same rate as any modern average city.
Besides, a lot of institutions of higher learning have established their active campuses in the town with the majority of the campuses admitting international students.
3. Booming real estate
Real estate business in Eldoret is booming and every investor wants to buy land.
Besides, there are a number of five-star hotels including, Sirikwa, Boma Inn, Noble among others. The posh Moi University Pension Scheme (MUPS Plaza) has also brought a more attractive city look to Eldoret town.
