City lawyer Cliff Ombeta on Friday angrily faced off with the prosecution team in a case where he is the defence lawyer.
Ombeta is representing five police officers and a driver implicated in the murder of lawyer Willy Kimani.
He on Friday appeared in court in sweatpants and a black cap, where he clashed with state counsel Nicholas Mutuku who questioned his actions, dressing and responses.
“Are we dealing with a supernatural being ..the conduct of the lawyer raises questions and that's why we have to investigate,” said the lawyer, after Ombeta said that he has been sick and will stay in the hospital if recommended by his doctors.
He has not attended several court sessions, something that did not go down well with the Prosecution team.
In response, the lawyer told the counsel off, saying that his sickness is his own business and has even began walking away after an initial clash with justice Bernard Sihanya.
“I’m not the one on trial so anything happening to me its private; again leave me alone …why do you want to know my sickness, leave me alone,” he said.
It took the intervention of presiding judge Jessie Lesiit to calm the situation down, after which Ombeta apologized for his dress code.
A report on his health status is set to be presented in court on Monday, He said that he was taken ill on Saturday, and is still in pain.
