Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua has said he is ready to lead the Kamba community to ascend to power.

Speaking on Wednesday at Komarock near Tala in Matungulu Sub-county, Mutua said Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s time in politics is over.

He reminded Kalonzo that time has come for him to pave way for new blood.

Mutua said he is grateful for what Kalonzo has been able to do so far, but noted that the former vice president is no longer relevant in the political arena because the dynamics have changed.

“Let me tell you plainly, the Kamba community should find someone who can be voted for by other communities and not by Kambas alone. Because if all the 2.5 million Kamba voters voted for Mutua and I garner all the Kamba votes and I don’t get votes from other communities I would not be president,” said Mutua, as quoted by Citizen Digital.

The second term governor also alluded that he is the best-positioned candidate to contest and beat other competitors in the race to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta once he completes his second and final term in power.

"There is no other Kamba leader currently who can be voted by all communities in Kenya to become president, apart from Alfred Nganga Mutua. Kalonzo Musyoka has led well and has worked well. We thank him. Asanti sana. But everything has its time.

"Kalonzo is like Kipchoge Keino. Mutua is the modern Eliud Kipchoge… We are not disrespecting him. It is just the reality. For the race ahead of us, he will not be able to hack it because things have changed," he said.
