The Council of Governors (CoG) is to blame for the Division on Revenue Bill, 2019 impasse, Deputy President William Ruto has said.
Speaking at African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa Church in Nakuru Town on Saturday, Ruto said that the governors should rethink about the stalemate between Senators and Members of Parliament over the allocation of funds to the county government.
The second in command revealed that he has consulted the CoG chairperson Wycliffe Oparanya over the matter but his effort didn’t bear fruits after the governors resorted to seeking legal intervention over the matter.
Ruto, who is considered as one of the frontrunners in the race for Presidency said that time has come for governors to look for other solutions and not rushing to the court over every matter that comes their way.
He further said that the issue could have been resolved before the issue was taken to the corridors of justice.
"As leaders, we need to look for solutions to end this stalemate instead of going to court. I had advised Mr Oparanya that issues regarding division of revenue could only be resolved through intergovernmental agencies but he told me had an alternative solution," said Dr Ruto, as quoted by Daily Nation.
He also said that the issue could have been solved a long time ago had the Chairman of the COG heed to his advice.
Governors have threatened to shut down counties if they do not receive funds this month.
