Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has called for government officials defying court orders to be thrown behind bars.
Responding to a question by journalist Sophia Wanuna on what his office was doing regarding lawyer Miguna Miguna tribulations, Murkomen said he is ready to help Miguna, and any other citizen when called upon to.
He further noted that so far, he has made his position clear, and issued counsel on the Miguna issue.
"It is the government which you serve in that is doing this sir! ... you are leader of majority in this seemingly ‘rogue’ government ... what are you doing to hold it to account? You can’t just tweet like the rest of us my fren," Sophia posed.
"Thank you Sophie. If my office was required to do anything for MM or any other citizen I would have done it.I have given my counsel. The courts should jail government officials who are In contempt of court orders. There is no collective responsibility in violating the constitution," Murkomen said in his response.
Earlier on, Murkomen had said the government should stop frustrating Miguna, and instead facilitate his return to Kenya, prompting Sophia to ask the above question.
"The frustrations Miguna Miguna is facing epitomizes the hypocrisy of Kenyan politics of “change” and “Kenya Mpya”. It paints ugly BBI and handshake. If we can’t embrace MM with his divergent ideas how shall we pretend to unite a nation...?" he posed.
His intervention comes in the wake of Air France ejecting MIguna Miguna from one of its planes in Germany.
The lawyer claims that his removal from the Kenya-bound plane came after President Uhuru Kenyatta issued a red alert, a claim which has not been independently verified.
