Opposition leader Raila Odinga was on Friday forced to cancel planned rallies in Kuria West constituency, after chaos erupted.
Trouble began when supporters of Raila's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate Ochilo Ayacko and those of his leading opponent Eddy Oketch clashed at Kehancha Cereals Grounds.
Reports in the Nation indicate that trouble started after a local businessman reportedly stormed the ground with hired goons.
The group was chanting anti-Ayacko slogans, leading to a clash with Raila's supporters who had gathered awaiting his arrival.
The invading group also told Ayacko's supporters off, claiming that the region is Oketch's stronghold, forcing the police who were manning the area to shoot in the air to disperse the warring sides.
Local leaders who were present blamed the incident on area Member of Parliament Mathias Rorbi who has since thrown his weight behind Oketch of the Federal Party of Kenya (FPK) party.
"We know that Mr Robi is the one behind all these. He has hired goons, led by Mnati, to disrupt ODM rally. We call upon the police to arrest people behind this," a local ODM-allied activist told the Nation on Friday.
For people were injured in the confusion.
Odinga landed in the county on Thursday to lead Ayacko's final campaigns, as he (Ayacko) prepares to face off with Oketch and 3 other candidates in the October 8 race.
