On Wednesday morning, Mr. Chebukati was a host at Citizen TV’s #DayBreak Show where he addressed various issues concerning elections and election body in Kenya.

Asked about Akombe’s resignation, Mr. Chebukati said:

“She told me she wants to go to Dubai to check on the ballot papers and I gave her permission to go. It was a shock to me and the commission,” said Chebukati.

Akombee who claimed that she is not hiding but returned to her job in New York City, came out to respond saying she will give full comments when the right time comes.

“I reserve my comments to an opportune time,” said Akombe.

Various things had prompted her to resign from her IEBC job. She had claimed that her personal security was in danger. More so, she had claimed that none of the recommendations they were making were being put into consideration.

According to the IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati, Akombee had complained about her security which had been beefed up.

Therefore, her decision to quit the commission remains unclear according to Mr. Chebukati.
