Former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama is among the most vocal politicians in Ukambani region.
Muthama is also known for controversies, he has several times found himself in trouble.
The former senator has been arrested several times and arraigned in court over hate speech allegations.
On October 14, 2014, Muthama shocked Kenyans when he allegedly detained lawyers and journalists who had accessed his home in Kangundo, Machakos County without his permission.
The lawyers from FIDA Kenya together with the journalists were pursuing a story on Muthama and his estranged wife Agnes Kavindu.
The lawyers are said to have traveled from Nairobi accompanied with the journalists to help iron out marital issues between the former senator and his ex-wife.
The journalists were welcomed to Muthama’s’ home by Kavindu whom they interviewed.
However, on their way out, the guards declined to let them leave the compound.
The guards detained the lawyers and journalists on Muthama’s instructions, claiming that they had invaded his privacy without his knowledge.
It took police intervention for the lawyers and journalists to be freed.
Muthama has maintained that he divorced Kavindu hence they have no any marital connections.
Kavindu on the other hand insists that she is still married to Muthama.
