Njeri Ngirita, the suspect who sprang to fame at the height of the NYS scandal, shed tears in a court over her inability to withdraw cash.
The flamboyant suspect broke down after she was told by the judge hearing her case that she would get a response on whether she would be allowed to withdraw money within 17 days.
She told the court that her life had been plunged into untold difficulty since the freezing of her bank account in 2018.
“I have been subjected to untold suffering since my KCB account in Gilgil was frozen in 2018,” said Njeri as quoted by K24 on its news portal. “The [freezing] order has caused undue hardship to my family and paralysed the education of my children,” she added.
Ngirita was arrested in 2018 by law enforcement authorities in Nakuru over the loss of millions of shillings that were stolen from the NYS coffers in a brazen corruption scheme.
A number of NYS officials were also arrested by the police officers.
All the suspects have denied allegations levelled against them of being part of the web of corruption that led to the loss of funds meant for NYS projects.
Ngirita had applied to be allowed to withdraw 800,000 shillings through her lawyer Evans Ondieki so that she can pay school fees for her children.
