Former Kibwezi MP Kalembe Ndile now says that the ground has shifted from Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM) leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
Kalonzo has for years been recognised as the ultimate political decision-maker in lower Eastern, which the former Assistant Minister now says is no longer the case.
Speaking on Wednesday, he identified Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko as the new kingpin, saying that people have begun identifying with him, thanks to his good track record.
He lauded the youthful county boss as a generous man and a great leader, adding that he is currently basking in the support and admiration of his Kamba tribesmen.
"Currently, people in Ukambani are considering Sonko since he is not tribal and is a helpful man. The people have been observing his actions (Saa hii Ukambani watu wanaangalia Sonko maana si mkabila. Kila siku anasaidia watu na watu wanaangalia matendo yake)," he said.
Kalembe made the remarks while being interviewed on Radio Citizen, Wednesday morning.
He noted that Kalonzo's inability to bring any meaningful benefit to his people and his growing age are the main reasons behind his dimming fortunes in Ukambani.
He added that the people have picked Sonko who appears more focused and most likely to steer the region to success.
"It is good for the likes of Kalonzo to accept that the age has caught up with them. People believe his days are gone (Ni vizuri akina Kalonzo wakifika umri wakubali. Watu wanaona siku zake zinadidimia)," he added.
Kalonzo has since hinted at running for the presidency in the 2022 general elections.
