Speaking on Tuesday as he unveiled a cement factory in Salgaa, the head of state reiterated his message to politicians to work for Kenyans and stop politicking.

"When the country is enjoying peace and unity, there is much that can be done, it should not be about politics all the time. I am pleading with politicians to allow us to work first (Nchi ikiwa na amani na umoja mengi yanaweza kutendeka, sio kila saa ni siasa. Nawaomba wenzangu muambie wanasiasa wacheni tufanye kazi kwanza," Uhuru said as quoted by the Star newspaper.

His words come in the wake of heightened political temperatures over the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) that has seen the allies of the deputy president Dr Wliiam Ruto trade strong words with those of Raila Odinga.

DP Ruto's allies have vowed to stage parallel  BBI rallies across the country, setting the stage for confrontations in the coming days.

Far from the objective of the initiative, at least as written on paper, the BBI appears to be driving a wedge between different political factions in the country.
