The number of pupils who have confirmed dead after the Monday morning tragedy at Precious School Talent has been confirmed to be eight.
According to a report by Citizen TV, the death toll had earlier on been put at seven but police confirmed that the total number of bodies recovered from the site of the tragedy was eight. Seven out of the eight bodies were identified whereas one boy was yet to be identified.
The pupils who died included seven girls and one boy.
Deputy President William Ruto while addressing the media after visiting the injured pupils at the Kenyatta National Hospital claimed that out of the 64 injured pupils, 60 had been treated and discharged.
He also added that treatment of the remaining four pupils was being concluded.
“I am glad doctors are doing their best to ensure the young ones are back in good health soon,” DP Ruto stated as quoted by Citizen TV.
The Kenya Red Cross which oversaw the rescue mission at the debris after the tragedy has nonetheless not issued its official report as to the number of pupils who died.
Red Cross had however indicated at one point that on Monday that four pupils had been rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital.
The education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has formed a task force to investigate the incident.
