Hundreds of county workers will have their salaries delayed for July, a predicament which could escalate to subsequent months due to Divisions of Revenue Bill standoff, Finance boss Peter Muga has confirmed.
For the second year in a row in the month of July, Nyamira County workers will suffer the fate, with those with loans being the most affected.
According to Mr Muga, the county government had received a communication from Council of Governors alerting them on the impending crisis.
"This is beyond our control. The entire nation knows about the crisis and as workers, we only hope that the matter will be resolved soonest. For now, no salaries will be processed," he said.
On Tuesday, Chief Justice David Maraga ordered Senators and MPs to solve the matter within 7 days, failure to which the court shall intervene.
A letter from Council of Governors chairman Wycliffe Oparanya dated 23rd July also confirmed the impasse, with Oparanya asking banks and landlords to bare with county workers.
"The disagreement on Divisions of Revenue Bill means that no money has been disbursed to counties. This will affect payment of salaries and suppliers," he wrote.
Mr Oparanya dismissed calls to have counties pay from their own revenue, arguing that the approach will inconvenience other counties which raise little.
