Turkana Governor Joshphat Nanok has openly declared that he will disobey a recent directive from his Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga.
Raila has lately been campaigning against politicians' involvement in church functions, especially fundraisers, urging the church to reject donations and funds from the group.
However, Nanok has said that he will not honour the instruction, but will instead be seen attending more church functions and sharing what he has with the houses of prayer.
“I will also continue attending church fundraisers whenever I am invited and I urge all leaders to follow suit,” he said while hailing Deputy President William Ruto who is known for his many church attendance and contributions.
The county boss spoke while accompanying the DP for a series of fundraisers that saw 20 churches benefit.
The two and other area leaders also attended the fundraiser of Super Women Group fundraiser at Baraza Park and other project launches.
Present leaders bashed Raila for only visiting the region during election times, the region being one of the few that backed his 2013 and 2017 presidential bids in the larger Rift Valley region.
"Any leader who does not support Turkana residents during the hour of need will not get votes from here,” said Turkana South MP James Lomenen.
Nanok also backed Ruto's anti-referendum calls, at a time when Raila is leading a push for constitutional reforms to bring forth, among others, an expanded executive system.
