Police on Sunday arrested a middle-aged man with 100 bullets at Kisima Trading Center in Samburu Central Sub-county.
Confirming the incident, Samburu County Police Commander Samson Ogelo said that the arrest came after the security personnel were tipped by the members of the public.
He also said that the officers were on patrol before they got information that the man was in possession of the ammunition. The officers swung into action with immediate effect before arresting the man.
“Police who were on patrol at Kisima Trading Center received a tip off from members of the public that there was a man carrying suspicious goods, the officers searched the suspect and recovered 100 bullets from him,” said the police boss.
The police grilled the suspect for hours before he was taken to Maralal Police Station where he is currently being held. The suspect is expected to be arraigned in court over the charges of illegal possession.
“Our officers are investigating to establish where he was taking the bullets and the intended purpose,” said the police commander, as quoted by Citizen Digital.
The arrest comes a time when the government has announced a crackdown on illegal possession of arms and ammunition. Persons in possession of the arms without licenses have been asked to surrender the same with immediate effect.
