A woman has been detained by the police in Kirinyaga County after she found a colonial era bomb in Kagumo, Kirinyaga.
Kirinyaga Central Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Daniel Ndege who confirmed the incident said the woman, a scrap metal dealer, is being held in police custody for questioning.
According to a report by Nation, Ndege said the woman had bought the bomb together with other metal pieces from a young man and took them to her home in Kagumo village.
She, however, rushed to the police station after realizing that one of the metal pieces was a missile that Ndege said is believed to have been abandoned many years ago by colonialists.
The DCC said they are seeking information on where she got the bomb and who was the man that sold her the metals as investigations have been launched.
“The woman is being held at Kerugoya Police Station so that she can shed light on how she stumbled upon the deadly weapon.”
“We would like to know the man who sold the bomb as a scrap metal to the businesswoman. She must help us to identify the man so that appropriate action can be taken,” said Ndege as quoted by Nation.
Police had rushed to the area and sealed off the compound before calling the ballistic experts from Nyeri who detonated the bomb.
