For a while now people from the Rift valley have been on the National scene but majorly in politics and winning international athletics. In the entertainment scene, we have had a bunch and clearly we have those that stood out especially in comedy.
Some have decided to bring out their cultures using comedy. Notable comedians that have graced our airwaves and deserve a pat on the back include:
1. Inspector Nicholas
Whenever jokes were cracked involving the Kalenjins, it almost always boiled down to a police character. As such, the entry of Inspector Nicholas Kiprotich, who plays a cop in his comedy sets, lends humour to the Kalenjin accent through his funny exploits as a police officer.
2. Chemutai
She is among the pioneers among the reserved Kalenjin ladies to venture into comedy. Chemutai has a trademark – a guard of mursik which she often blesses with the words ‘chibambe’ when she hands to a member of the crowd. It is an energy drink, according to the funny woman from Rift Valley.
3. David the student
The slogan for David the student is ‘styupit’ which according to him is not insulting but rather a compliment. The funny man was among the first Kalenjins to break into the comedy scene on the Churchill show. He gave everyday habits of the Kales a funny twist. Whatever happened to him though?
4. Propesa
The group of comedians hit the scene a bang, with their trademark ‘Hallo William’ comedy routine. What is notable about the group’s success is their use of current events, which they often make it funny by seeking the intervention of DP Ruto, although with a simulated call.
5. Duncan Wambilianga
He is one comedian who doesn’t overly use the Kalenjin accent. He instead prefers the Luhya accent for reasons best known to him. Even then, he is still one of the countable Kalenjin comics that have earned national appeal, recognition and fame.
This is clearly something to be proud of.
