Police in Nyandarua County are investigating an incident where a man allegedly killed his two sons before hanging himself in their house on Friday night.
According to neighbours, the man, 32, stabbed the boys aged 8 and 6 respectively in their bedroom before killing himself in another room.
Mr Michael Njenga, a neighbour, said that they heard a commotion in the house at about 3am before waking up to the sad news. The man's wife was however not found in the house.
"We heard a commotion at that time only to wake up to the sad news. The family has been having domestic rows and that is what we suspect could have caused the problem," he said.
Confirming the incident, county police boss Gideon Ngumi said that investigations have been launched to establish the possible reasons behind the murders and suicide.
"We are on our way to collect the bodies as well as establishing the cause of the deaths. We have since deployed our officers on the ground," he told the Standard on Saturday morning.
The neighbours expressed concerns over the absence of the man's wife in the house, and now want the police to establish her whereabouts.
"This is very shocking as we do not know the whereabouts of the mother. That is why we informed the police," said Mr Njenga.
The bodies were taken to the JM Memorial Hospital morgue in Ol Kalou town.
