Celebrated TV anchor Jacque Maribe and his fiancé Joseph Kuria Irungu alias Jowie will now be charged with murder, Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji has directed.
The two have been linked to the murder of Monicah Nyawira Kimani, a 29-year-old woman who was found murdered at her Kilimani home two weeks ago.
In a letter dated October 9, 2018, Haji stated that after reviewing the evidence, he has found that both Maribe and Irungu should be charged with murder.
“I have independently reviewed the evidence so far on record and am satisfied that there exists a prima facie case to warrant criminal prosecution against the following individuals for the offense of Murder Contrary to section 203 as read with section 204 of the Penal Code,” stated Haji.
He added: “Joseph Kuria Irungi alias Jowie, Jacqueline Wanjiru Maribe; I have therefore directed that they be immediately arraigned before the High Court and charged accordingly.”
Maribe was arrested on September 30 and arraigned before the Kiambu Law Courts on October 1 where the court allowed detectives to detain her for 11 days.
Her arrest came days after Jowie’s arrest. He was later arraigned at the Kiambu Law Courts on September 26 and detectives were allowed to detain him for 10 days.
The suspects are set to appear before the Kiambu Law Courts on Tuesday.
