A Sudan national is one of the two suspects who were nabbed by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for allegedly robbing a man in Kikuyu, Kiambu County.
23-year-old Gout John Nyang (Sudanese) was arrested together with his alleged accomplice 22-rear-old Philemon Omboko Mwanza on Monday night for suspected robbery with violence.
According to the DCI, the two were in a group of three suspected robbers who had robbed of a man Sh3000, his ATM card and mobile phone at gunpoint.
DCI through a tweet, says the suspected robbers opened fire when they came face to face with the detectives after they had alighted from a matatu which they had boarded from the crime scene.
Detectives were forced to shoot in the air before they managed to arrest two of the three suspects. Manhunt has already kicked off to bring to books one suspected who escaped.
"The operation was triggered by a report from a male victim who was, at gunpoint, robbed of Cash Ksh. 3,000/-, ATM Card & his Mobile Phone in Kikuyu by three men. Upon alighting the matatu which plies Kikuyu-NRB route, the gang opened fire as they attempted to escape, forcing the officers to shoot in the air as they made pursuit, to avoid inflicting casualties on members of the public. Two were nabbed while one escaped but is being sought. Further investigations ongoing as the two face appropriate charges," said the DCI
A pistol with five bullets was recovered from the suspects. No causalities have been reported.
