The Parliamentary committee that vetted Dr Ben Chumo, Uhuru's nominee for the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) job, has rejected him over what it called integrity issues.
Dr Chumo faces economic crimes charges that have been pressed by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), charges which he roundly rejected during his vetting.
In a detailed report, the committee reached the conclusion that Chumo did not meet the constitution's Chapter Six threshold.
The development means that President Uhuru will have to nominate another person for the job in the hope that they will not suffer Chumo's fate of rejection.
Kenyans have been reacting to the development.

"Parliament has got virtually everything wrong but on this one, they got it right. I hope that they will continue on that path of being independent," Kufur Habida says.
"The message that has been sent out there is very powerful. People with integrity issues will not be given a free pass," Jamal Nadhif says.
"Kenyans should be very proud of this development. This is how our country should operate," Bara Hassan says.
"That was parliamentary independence being asserted there," Yunus Kamal says.
"Had they dared approve his nomination, it would have sent the wrong message to the country. Only clean people should be given a pass," Duro Hufe says.
