A recent DNA test ruled that Mevis, who had been living with Sharon Mitekwa as her twin sister, is Omina's daughter while Melon Lutenyo with whom she has been living with as her daughter is not hers.

The DNA test further confirmed that Melon and Sharon, who are identical, are daughters of Rosemary Onyango who lives in Kakamega and were switched at birth.

Emerging details indicate that Omina's attempts to take Mevis away were met by full resistance from the girl who threatened to commit suicide if separated from her 'sister'.

According to Shem Abuti, grandfather to the twins, the incident came at a time when the three girls were readying themselves to meet Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.

He said that Omina who lives in Nairobi raided the home with the help of police officers, before fleeing with the girl on a motorbike.

"The governor had requested to meet the girls and Omina had been invited. We were shocked to see the officers. She wanted to separate the girls but Mevis resisted and threatened to commit suicide,” he told the Standard.

According to Kakamega Central Deputy OCPD Sammy Nyongesa, Sharon and Melon fled the scene to the police station for protection, before fainting moments later.

“The girls were terrified when they arrived here, our officers had to resuscitate them after both fainted, maybe out of trauma," he said, adding that they spent their Thursday night under police watch.

Melon and Sharon said that they met on social media before linking up.
