The supremacy war between Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu and his Nairobi counterpart Mike Sonko seems to be far from over.
This comes after Waititu on Saturday renewed his rivalry with Sonko while in a meeting with an association of matatu owners from the metropolitan counties.
Waititu, who is popularly known as Babayao asked residents in the city to ensure Sonko doesn't recapture his seat in 2022.
The outspoken county boss accused his colleague of harming businesses through demolition of structures in the city and also by banning matatus from the Central Business District (CBD).
“We will not allow, again, Nairobi to go into the hands of somebody who does not care about the livelihood of [our] people,” said Waititu while speaking in Ruiru over the weekend.
The sentiments angered Sonko's supporters who dared Waititu to resign and vie in Nairobi if he felt the capital was not managed properly.
Led by former Mwingi Central MP Joe Mutambu, the supporters asked Waititu to keep of Nairobi's affairs and concentrate on what his people elected him to do.
"Let him not run the affairs of Nairobi from Kiambu. Nairobi residents elected their governor and it is upon the people to decide whether they want to keep him or not. If he feels he is a Nairobian, then he should relinquish his position in Kiambu and come and run in Nairobi against Sonko or any other person but not to say that he is not going to let Nairobi to be run by certain people," said Mutambu.
Mutambu said it was 'reckless' for Waititu to refer to others as outsiders noting all Kenyans had a right to live anywhere in this country.
"We believe that whether you are learned or not, Kamba or Kikuyu, you have a right to live or do business within and without the borders of the country and it is not upon Waititu to dictate what people should do in Nairobi," said the former legislator as quoted by the Nation.
