Though this did not attract much attention, Kobia alias Papa Illunga is not new to controversy. At some point, he declared himself the country's fourth in command.

In a rant in a video that went viral earlier in the year, Kobia said that he comes fourth after President Uhuru Kenyatta, his deputy William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

He also bashed politicians who were attacking the President then, threatening to personally discipline them.

A few months after he had again found himself on the spotlight after bashing Central Bank of Kenya Governor Dr Patrick Njoroge over plans to tighten rules on people depositing lots of cash.

“I have nothing personal against the CBK Governor. However, it would be important if they (CBK) would loosen the noose on the tough rules they have created for transacting; large sums of money,” he was quoted by the Standard.

Kobia claimed that he had lots of cash stashed in Asia, which he wanted to bring back home.

He was in March 2017 arrested and charged for assaulting a Congolese national.

In August 2018, he banned Uhuru's Private Secretary Jomo Gechaga from visiting Meru for allegedly blocking him from accessing the President.

He declared himself the leader of the Meru's warning of serious consequences in case Gechaga - who is Uhuru's nephew - visited Meru

"Do not dare step in Meru, I am the commander in chief of the Merus and I am warning you to stay alert," said Kobia.

On Wednesday, he businessman who has a missing finger claimed that some people who are opposed to his 2022 presidential bid are the ones behind his woes.

” They know I am contesting for the presidency that is why they are following me wherever I go. This is all politics,” he added.

The finger was reportedly chopped off by his business partners after a deal went sour.
