Health Care workers in Garissa County have benefitted from a diabetes management training programme offered by the Garissa County Health Department.
The CEC for health Ahmednathir Omar said the training was crucial as it would build the capacity of healthcare workers in detection, screening and comprehensive treatment of Diabetes mellitus.
Omar said the training is essential when it comes to early diagnosis and effective treatment of people living with diabetes.
“Garissa Governor Ali Korane had indicated in his manifesto the need to reverse the rising cases of non-communicable diseases like Cancer, Diabetes and Hypertension,” he said on Wednesday.
The programme was held in partnership with Safaricom Foundation and Pastoralist Girls Initiative. Training facilitators were Paediatric Endocrinology training centre for Africa (PETCA) as the health care workers were trained on how to better manage the disease.
Omar noted that funds have been allocated by Safaricom Foundation for the construction of a Diabetic Complex Centre and Diabetic clinics within Garissa.
The theme for the programmes was ‘Equip Health care workers with evidence based knowledge on early diagnosis and correct treatment of type 1 diabetes mellitus’.
The CEC for health commended the health care workers for their hard work and service delivery to the community of Garissa county.
